Keller Hanes - About Us

Why we did it. How we did it. How you can Help

Why

I was telling a friend about the site and how I was trying to get all of Lana's family and my family photos on the web. That it would be a family resource, usually there is only one of each photo, and that not everyone has a copy. This way we all share.

He surprised me by saying that his dad's brother would visit from California and when visiting his mother, that each time he would take back a few items, including family photos.

While in California he divorced and later he passed away, it was then realized that he had taken all the photos and no one knew there whereabouts. His wish was that someone had made copies of them.

How

We started with registering the name and renting the webspace. If the photos are ours, we start by scanning older family photos at 600 dpi, to insure a large enough photo with plenty of detail. Copies are made to CD and are stored at several locations.

Copies of large photos are re-sized to 640 pixels long side, and then sorted into catagories. Only then are the photos retouched, the originals remain untouched. Your monitor and calibration effect the way the photos are seen and we do compensate for various computer settings. Every attempt is made to remain true to the original photo, and only adjusting enough to make a passable print. Sometimes it is tough to know when to stop

Prints fade, get damaged, are improperly stored, mishandled, and sometimes it is just a bad shot.

Bringing them out of the shadows.

We may attempt to fill in missing information but it is at best an educated guess.

Missing information is lost for ever.

Help

Do you have any family photos? Are they one of a kind or would they be of interest to others?

Gone forever

Lets get them scanned and shared.

Tell us what you have, so we can evaluate the best way to archive them. We always enjoy looking at family photos, but please do not send so many that it will choke our computer and internet connection.

Email or call before sending any pictures and remember we respect copyrights. No copyrighted photos. We are interested in the older family snapshots.

Thanks
Bill and Lana
